And three for Piastres ! Unable to achieve the slightest pole in Formula 3 last season, the Australian has just signed a third in a row in Formula 2, this Friday, on the occasion of the Sochi meeting. The Prema driver, who was nevertheless discovering the circuit, impressed once again by beating Jehan Daruvala (Carlin) on his last lap. He pockets the four points for pole position.

The two men will leave on the front line in front of a certain Theo Pourchaire (ART Grand Prix). French, already 3rd in the free practice session in the morning, was able to raise his level at the end of the session to move into the second row. A position far from being handicapping when we know that the real first turn of this circuit is located almost 800 meters away.

C1 pole for Ticktum

Théo will have at his side one of the contenders for the title, the Chinese Guanyu-Zhou (UNI-Virtuosi). This is a good qualification on the part of a pilot of theAlpine Academy, but it was a bad operation in the championship since its main competitor, championship leader Oscar Piastri, took pole.

In good form in recent weeks, Ralph Boschung (Campos) qualified in the top 5, just ahead of the very surprising Jake Hughes (HWA Racelab), author of the 6th fastest time. At home, Robert Shwartzman (Prema) could not do better than 7th, ahead of the Hitech duo composed of Liam Lawson and Jüri Vips.

Reverse grid pole position for race 1 will go to Daniel Ticktum (Carlin), qualified in 10th position. The two former teammates Marcus Armstrong (DAMS) and Christian Lundgaard (ART Grand Prix) finished 11th and 12th, a few thousandths behind the reverse grid. Race 1 will take place this Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m.
