This first round of the 2025 season allowed us to finally measure the potential of the new car. During his presentation last September, Bruno Michel, boss of Formula Motorsport Limited, assured that the F3 2025 was designed to deliver “ exciting races, with plenty of overtaking opportunities " Did she keep her promises at Albert Park?
Not quite according to Noah Strømsted (Trident): “ The main difference I noticed with the old car was the DRS, which seemed less effective than before. During the sprint race, held on a dry track, it was rather difficult to overtake. "Despite this detail, which is far from negligible since it is one of the car's major selling points, all the stakeholders said they were generally satisfied with this new single-seater, the little sister of the 3 F2019. It was a good first, " confirmed Théophile Naël, joined by the big winner of the weekend, Rafael Câmara: " I felt good with this car (...) the team has a solid foundation ».
In terms of lap times, the 2024 pole position was set by Fornaroli in 1:33, compared to 044:1 this year by Câmara. We can't really talk about a step towards more speed. The new car is therefore significantly slower than the previous one, except that Melbourne was the second 34 meeting, compared to the first in 999. The overall understanding of the car is therefore less.
The drivers are eagerly awaiting the Bahrain tests (March 26-28) where they hope to " unlock even more performance ". In their preparation for the F2, it would indeed be beneficial.
