At first glance, the disappointment of disqualification after the main race in Austria has been digested for Nikola Tsolov (Campos). Third in the championship F3, the Bulgarian Lion is nevertheless the driver benefiting from the best dynamic of the moment. With a best time set in 1:45.847, the driver supported by Red Bull beat the other competitors on the grid by more than two tenths of a second. Charlie Wurz (Trident) and Tim Tramnitz (MP Motorsport) completed the first top three of the weekend, while there were a few surprises elsewhere.
Among the drivers with big stakes this weekend at Silverstone, Rafael Câmara (Trident) didn't have the best conditions just hours before qualifying. Fifth, the Brazilian is only three tenths behind the leader, but confirms his current struggles. Just behind the championship leader, the presence of Nikita Johnson, a freelance driver at the last round of the season for DAMS, and recently started by Hitech, testifies to the small gap in this session. Ugo Ugochukwu (Prema), who led the session for a long time, finished seventh, while he seems to have shown some notable progress in Spielberg. He too had been deprived of a brilliantly obtained podium following a disqualification.
For the French, the decline seen again in Austria seems to have been confirmed by this first session on British soil. 18th and 20th, Théophile Naël (VAR) and Alessandro Giusti (MP Motorsport) will have to find the resources to qualify in a better position this afternoon. Their qualifying practice, which has repeatedly contributed to mixed performances from them this year, suggests that a boost would be welcome for them, although the specificities of Silverstone could open the door to more overtaking.
The starting grid will be set this afternoon, following qualifying at 15:00 PM (French time). Part of the weekend's fate could well be decided by the outcome of this new session.
