Théophile Naël, on the podium in Australia and runner-up in the championship: “I didn’t expect that”

The Saint-Etienne driver made a great start to his F3 career: third in qualifying, scoring a solid points haul in the Sprint, and a first podium finish in the Main Race. He's now second to Rafael Câmara, almost to everyone's surprise.

How do you feel after your first meeting?

I'm very satisfied, especially since we scored a lot of points this weekend. I didn't expect such a result, especially after the winter tests in Barcelona, where we weren't really satisfied. But we worked a lot in the run-up to this first round, and I'm happy that these efforts paid off.

How did you experience the Main Race?

I tried to find the best line, where there was the most grip, but it was really difficult. I even hoped to see a red flag, because the conditions were getting very complicated, with reduced visibility and a lot of aquaplaning.

How are you preparing for the future?

We will now focus on the Bahrain test (March 26-28, Ed.), where we will have the opportunity to test many new things on the car. I expect the more experienced drivers to get back into the game quickly, so it's up to us to continue working as we have been doing so far, and we'll see how it goes from there.
