Formula e – EL1: Renault e.dams confirms, Piquet Jr misses

Already author of the two best times in the collective tests yesterday, the two single-seaters of the team Renault e.dams dominated this morning the first free practice session of the Beijing ePrix, the opening round of the 2015-2016 season. Formula e. It's this time Sébastien Buemi who stood out, being the only one of the 18 drivers entered (The Trulli Formula e Team is not taking part in the meeting) to have gone under 1'37. The Swiss in fact completed a lap of the Beijing track in 1'36"991, relegating his closest pursuer, in this case his teammate Nicolas Cheers, at 0 »493. Times which were, of course, achieved in qualifying mode, namely with a maximum power of 200 kW.

The competition, however, has grown closer. But in third row, it is neither an Audi Sport Abt driver nor a resident of DS Virgin Racing that we find. At the wheel of a car of Dragon Racing equipped with a traction chain designed by Venturi, Loïc duval conceded only 0 to the reference mark. The Chartrain rider was 899”0 ahead of his stablemate Jérôme d’Ambrosio, the top 220 being completed by the Briton Sam Bird, best representative of the DS Virgin Racing clan. Followed by Nick Heidfeld (Mahindra), Stéphane Sarrazin (Venturi), Daniel Abt (Audi Sport Abt), Oliver Turvey (Nextec TXR) and Antonio Felix da Costa (Team Aguri), tenth.

Setting out to achieve a very interesting time, Jean-Eric Vergne was forced to abandon his car on the track, which resulted in a red flag. The DS Virgin Racing Tricolor ultimately finished 14th ahead of Lucas di Grassi (Audi Sport Abt) who was expected to be more advantageous. The Brazilian is ahead of only three of his rivals in the standings, namely Jacques Villeneuve (Venturi), Nathanaël Berthon (Team Aguri) and Nelson Piquet Jr (Nextev TCR).

Apart from the mishap encountered by Jean-Eric Vergne, let us also note the minor spin of Jacques Villeneuve and especially the incident which affected Nelson Piquet Jr, who hit the inner wall...of the access road to the track ! The Brazilian seems to have made a mistake on his own, certainly the author of a careless error. Already delayed yesterday by his technical problems, the leader of the Nextev TCR team is definitely not celebrating.

The second and final free practice session is scheduled for 4:30 a.m. French time, i.e. 1:30 a.m. before the start of qualifying, with Group 1 setting off to attack the clock at 6 a.m.
