Autumn 2016 will be a milestone in Jaguar's history. After stopping his involvement in Formula 1 end of 2004 (and a buyout of the structure by Red Bull), the British brand will make its return to motorsport in the 100% electric single-seater championship of the Formula e.
Jaguar will obtain manufacturer status for the third season 2016-2017, and will use its commitment to develop new cutting-edge technologies in the electric field. Williams Advances Engineering, which builds the batteries used in the series, was chosen as the technical partner.
“We have looked in detail at multiple ways to return to motor racing, comments team principal James Barclay. This is a very important decision for Jaguar and we wanted to get it right. With our plans for future electric vehicles, Formula e was an obvious choice and we believe the benefits will be enormous.
The FIA and promoter have exciting plans for the future of the championship and we are proud to be one of the first car manufacturers to enter the series with our own team. We have a lot of work to do before the first race, but it's a challenge we relish. »
More details regarding the team organization, drivers and partners will be announced later. Jaguar announcement follows on the withdrawal of Trulli Formula e Team, confirmed this morning. The FIA is also expected to unveil the entry list for the third season of Formula E this Tuesday.
