The first double Swiss podium in the history of the Formula E is not erased from the records. But the names that compose it are no longer the same. You can't rewrite history in motorsport, but FE proves that it is still possible to change it slightly. Nearly two weeks after the arrival of the Jakarta E-Prix, Sébastien Buemi recovered the third place he had lost due to a penalty.

Behind Dan Ticktum's first victory, Nico Müller's second career podium had gone somewhat unnoticed in Indonesia. Now, it's as if it never happened. Crossing the line in fourth, the Andretti driver was promoted thanks to a five-second penalty imposed on his compatriot Buemi, who was third.

The incident occurred early in the race and involved two future podium contenders. The Envision rider had attacked another of his compatriots, Edoardo Mortara, and the maneuver resulted in slight contact. Mortara himself pleaded Buemi's case, explaining that he had "barely felt the impact" and confirming that his rival was at his level.

Why did it take so long to overturn this penalty?

Sébastien Buemi was given a five-second penalty for this maneuver, as early as lap 18 while he was still stuck in the midfield. After the race, the Envision team appealed this decision, providing new video footage of the incident from an onboard camera to which the stewards did not have access.

The reason it took so long was to organize a new hearing: it was necessary to summon both Buemi and Envision, but Mortara's opinion was also sought by the officials. Although the method seems entirely consistent, given that the drivers' opinions are essential, one can still question the extent of the delays.

Given the Envision team's struggles this season, their persistence is understandable. Ranked eighth, Buemi has recovered 11 valuable points for his team, which sits second to last in the Constructors' standings. In doing so, Envision moves back into a tie with Cupra Kiro, and is now just 23 points behind Andretti's sixth-place finish. The green cars now have four races left to save their season.
