A cup of electric Minis to open Formula E and the DTM in 2024

En 2024, the Formula E and DTM are equipped with a new support discipline. This is a championship created in Sweden, the NXT Gen Cup, based on electric Minis and reserved for young drivers aged between 15 and 25.

The series is based on a car developed and built by Lestrup Racing Team, the LRT NXT1 – a 1150 kg machine based on an electric Mini Cooper SE. The front-wheel drive race car, rated at 180 hp, has an additional 60 hp when push-to-pass is activated, with a 30 kWh battery and 800 V system.

Functions also include braking energy regeneration and energy consumption reduction. It is also equipped with adjustable ählins shock absorbers and semi-slick Hankook tires. 20 cars were built for the series, allowing all drivers to have the same equipment. All charging operations are managed in collaboration with ABB E-Mobility, the official charging partner of the NXT Gen Cup.

Alberto Longo, co-founder and director of the championship Formula E, said : “We are thrilled to host the NXT Gen Cup after its very successful debut last year. The addition of an all-electric junior category to the European part of our calendar will further contribute to the development of young talent, a key element of our sport, and give them the opportunity to race on the same stage as our drivers and world-class teams. »

This NXT Gen Cup is in some way a continuation of the Jaguar I-Pace eTrophy, a one-make cup of electric SUVs contested at the opening of the FE between 2018 and 2020.

April 27: Monaco with the FE
May 11-12: Berlin (Germany) with the FE
July 5-7: Norisring (Germany) with the DTM
July 20-21: London (Great Britain) with the FE
October 18-20: Hockenheim (Germany) with the DTM
