Lola, which confirmed its commitment in March until 2030, will therefore continue its partnership with Yamaha that began this year. So far, the partnership between the two brands (and the ABT team) has not resulted in any points scored in the first four E-Prix races of the season. Former champion in the category, Brazilian Lucas di Grassi, is teaming up this year with rookie Zane Maloney, from Barbados. In addition to the Lola-Toyota, Nissan, Jaguar, Porsche and Maserati have also confirmed their commitment to GEN4, which will begin in Season 13, at the end of 2026.
“Working with Yamaha Motor on the development of the powertrain that the Lola Yamaha ABT team currently uses in Formula E was a positive and mutually beneficial experience”, explained Till Bechtolsheimer, president of Lola Cars. “We have already committed to GEN4 and I am very pleased that Yamaha Motor is continuing this journey with us in electric racing. With their extensive experience and commitment to sustainable mobility, Yamaha is the ideal partner for Lola Cars and we look forward to continuing to advance innovation in motorsport with them.”
Best known for her years of presence in MotoGP, the Yamaha brand is no stranger to motorsport, having notably competed in several seasons of Formula 1, mainly with Tyrrell, but also during the 1997 season with Arrows and reigning world champion Damon Hill. "Yamaha Motor is accelerating research and development of various technologies to acquire and improve new core technologies that will deliver Kando [a Japanese expression for the simultaneous feelings of deep satisfaction and intense excitement we experience when we encounter something of exceptional value] to our fans and contribute to sustainability in the future.", adds Heiji Maruyama, general manager and administrator of Yamaha.
Before thinking about Season 13, Lola and Yamaha will first continue to focus on Formula E Season 11, which continues this weekend with the fifth round of the season, at the Homestead-Miami circuit in Florida.
