There will be a new face in Formula E next season. The ABT team, associated with Lola Yamaha for the return of the British manufacturer in car, has made official the signing of Zane Maloney for Season 11 of Formula E. The 20-year-old Barbadian will discover the electric championship alongside one of the most experienced drivers on the grid, Lucas di Grassi.

Zane Maloney is no stranger to Formula E, having previously been a reserve driver for the Andretti team. The Barbadian currently drives in Formula 2 with Rodin Motorsport and is still in the running for the title (3rd in the championship with two victories). A protégé of the Sauber academy, his name was on the list of potential candidates for a seat in Formula 1 in 2025, but hope quickly faded in the face of Valtteri Bottas, Gabriel Bortoleto or even Theo Pourchaire.

“I am delighted to be part of the Lola Yamaha ABT team and look forward to this exciting challenge., rejoices Zane Maloney. Although I already know the championship well, this is a completely new chapter for me, so working with such an experienced team and alongside such a successful driver is the ideal next step. I have followed and admired Lucas’ struggles over the last few seasons, including when he became champion. I am sure I will learn a lot from him and that together we will push ourselves and advance the development of the car.”

Zane Maloney has already joined the ABT Lola Yamaha team for testing in Varano, Italy, and will return to the Gen3 EVO in Spain this week. “We won’t know the quality of our package until Sao Paulo (6-7 December). I’m confident I have the raw speed to be competitive, but experience is key in Formula E, so I’ll do everything I can to catch up as quickly as possible.”
