Zandvoort – Q2: Second pole position for Clerot, Deligny in second row

On a still-damp track, Pedro Clerot (VAR) once again set the fastest time of the morning. This time, the Brazilian opened up a wider gap to Freddie Slater (Prema), while Hiyu Yamakoshi (VAR) will also be on the front row.

At Zandvoort, on the home turf of Van Amersfoort Racing, Pedro Clerot yesterday secured his first pole position of the FRECA season, giving Dutch fans a nice reason for hope. This Sunday, the Brazilian repeated the feat, confirming a return to form after a missed opportunity at Spa-Francorchamps (he finished 25th and 16th in the two Belgian races). This time, the best time of the session was improved by nearly three seconds between the first and last attempts. With a time of 1:40.181, he once again beat Freddie Slater, second in a Group B race who had driven first on a drying track. The Briton, who had led for a long time, was ultimately six tenths behind the pole time.

Like yesterday, the Prema driver will start from third place on the grid. Hiyu Yamakoshi (VAR), having won his long-distance duel with Enzo Deligny (R-ace GP) in Group A, will start from second place, and the Frenchman from fourth. In the second race of this weekend, Deligny will not have to defend his position against Evan Giltaire, but rather against Jin Nakamura (R-ace GP). Thirteenth in Saturday's race, the Japanese driver will be keen to make up for lost time, while Giltaire will have to quickly climb back to hope for a podium finish. Fourth yesterday, the Frenchman will start from 13th. Behind him, Matteo De Palo (Trident), still the championship leader, will certainly engage in an interesting battle to watch for precious championship points.

Before this second race, the driver standings are particularly tight. The top four are neck and neck, with 11 points separating the leader from the 4th. With Evan Giltaire and Enzo Deligny in 3rd and 4th positions, neither driver should miss the 13:30 PM (French time) deadline if they hope to leave the Netherlands in an even better position. Unfortunately for Enzo Peugeot (RPM), Dorian Pin (Prema), or even Édouard Borgna (G4 Racing), the task will still be difficult from the back of the grid.
