Fourteen thousandths of a second. That's all it took for Alexandre Munoz to seize pole position in the first qualifying session of the weekend in FREC. On the demanding Spa-Francorchamps circuit, the ART Grand Prix driver overtook this season's favorite, Prema driver Kean Nakamura-Berta, in the final moments. In warm, but somewhat overcast conditions, the driver from Ariège managed to pull off his first pole position of the year, having already seemed to have the pace to achieve a similar performance last week at Zandvoort. More familiar with the car, and avoiding the few mistakes he made here and there in the first two races since Spielberg, Alexandre Munoz ultimately dominated the session, benefiting in particular from good tire management.
As per FREC regulations, despite Kean Nakamura-Berta's excellent time, he will start from the second row, not second place. R-ace GP rider Rashid Al Dhaheri, who qualified first in his group, will try to overtake Alexandre Munoz. Sebastian Wheldon, winner of both races at Zandvoort, qualified fourth overall and second in Group A. The other two French riders on the grid, Jules Roussel and Andrea Dupé, will start 14th and 27th respectively in Race 1, which takes place this Saturday at 10:00 AM (French time). Reza Seewooruthun, 10th on the grid, will start from pole position in Race 2 this Saturday afternoon.
