The departure is marked by a spectacular accident between the car de Nicholas latifi (DAMS), static on the grid, and Arjun Maini (Trident), who collided with the Canadian. Despite everything, this accident is a boon for Alexander albon (DAMS).

The Thai could have lost everything after stalling on the grid, but he benefited from the Safety Car to return to the track behind the peloton led by Nyck de Vries (Prema Racing). This one had taken the best of George Russell (ART GP) at the start.

Au 8e lap, George Russell pits after contact with the Dutchman. The Prema driver stopped two laps later and lost the advantage against to the future Williams F1 driver in 2019. The gaps stabilized until the last ten minutes of the race where Artem Markelov (Russian Time) passed De Vries for third place while Luca Ghiotto (Campos) on an offbeat strategy, led the race.

The Italian finally stopped 4 minutes from the end of the race, and made an incredible comeback by two seconds per sector on the leaders, despite a five-second penalty for having cut a chicane. Thanks to this finish at full speed, he climbed to the last step of the podium.

With a seventh victory this season, George Russell wins the 2018 title of Formula 2, completing the GP3/F2 double in two years like Charles Leclerc before him. Artem Markelov finishes 2e ahead of Luca Ghiotto, party 16e.

Nyck de Vries finishes 4the before Lando Norris (Carlin) and the Charouz Racing of Louis Delétraz and Antonio Fuoco. Roberto Merhi (Campos) takes reverse pole while Tadasuke Makino (Russian Time) and Jack Aitken (ART GP) complete the top 10. Dorian Boccolacci (MP Motorsport) finished in 12e instead.
