The new UNI-Virtuosi Racing team (ex-Russian Time) only waited for the second race of the 2019 season. Formula 2 to sign a victory. It is the work of Luca Ghiotto, winner of the Sprint Race in Bahrain on Sunday March 31.

The Italian is on his third victory in Formula 2, but this one is undoubtedly the most original. Starting seventh due to the reversed grid, the 24-year-old took control on the fourth lap.

But while pit stops were not mandatory in this event format, he changed tires on the 13th lap ! The 2015 GP3 Series runner-up then overtook the 13 drivers in front of him, which were in trouble with the worn tires. He exceeded the Dams of Nicholas latifi and Sergio Sette Camara two rounds from the end.

At the foot of the podium, we find the beginner Guanyu-Zhou (UNI-Virtuosi), who precedes Louis Delétraz (Carlin) and the pole sitter Mick Schumacher (According to). The German finishes sixth at the end of a leisurely race.

Anthoine Hubert (Arden) comes to die at the points gate in ninth place. The Frenchman also made a pit stop but lost too much time in the second part of the peloton. Dorian Boccolacci (MP Motorsport) and Giuliano Alesi (Trident) finished 17th and 18th after tire problems.
