GP2-C1: Felipe Nasr in his hand in Austria

It is not only F1 let Brazil shine. After Felipe Massa's pole position for the Austrian Grand Prix, it was another Felipe, Nasr this time, who showed all his talent this afternoon on the Red Bull Ring by winning the first race of the GP2 Series. The Carlin team resident took advantage of his excellent start from the second row to beat pole sitter Johnny Cecotto (Trident) and championship leader Jolyon Palmer (Dams). The South American then dominated the rest of the race, widening a significant gap at the front of the race before stopping to put on soft tires and control the end of the race.

Because if for the victory, Nasr left no chance to his rivals to come back to 29 points behind Palmer in the general, the fight for the podium was much more closely contested. And it was Stoffel Vandoorne (ART Grand Prix) who finished 2nd after a superb comeback. Starting 6th and coming out 11th after his pit stop, the Belgian was covered by McLaren got rid of nine pilots to get behind Nasr. Raffaele Marciello (Racing Engineering) completes the podium after another good comeback, having experienced a choppy first lap. Stefano Coletti (Racing Engineering), 2nd a few laps from the finish, finished 4th.

The second race will take place tomorrow in Austria.
