With the tenure of Fernando Alonso and Jenson Button for 2015 and the downgrading of Kevin Magnussen as a reserve driver and third driver, this no longer left much room for the promising Stoffel Vandoorne. A spokesperson for Woking (Great Britain) confirmed that the Belgian would remain a test pilot and development pilot McLaren, after having notably participated in the post-season tests in Abu Dhabi.
But Stoffel Vandoorne will remain in the competition next year since he will compete for a second season in the GP2 Series after having shone in the Support Championship of the F1. After finishing vice-champion of the Formula Renault 3.5 Series in 2013 behind Kevin Magnussen following his title won the previous year in Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0, the Belgian also took second place behind Jolyon Palmer by finishing best rookie with ART Grand Prix. His goal will therefore be to win first place in 2015.
