The vice-champion of Formula Renault 3.5 remained the strongest in qualifying at the Monza track in Italy. French Pierre Gasly dominated the session to claim his first pole position in the discipline after taking the lead from this morning in free practice.
Thanks to a reference lap established in 1’31″272, the stable resident DAMS ahead of New Zealander Mitch Evans (Russian Time) by 152 thousandths. King of the exercise and broad leader of the championship since the start of the season, the Belgian Stoffel vandoorne (ART Grand Prix) fails in third position by more than two tenths and will share the second row of the main race with Alex lynn, Gasly's teammate, and reigning GP3 Series champion.
Arthur Pic (Campos Racing) ranks 7th in the session, 666 thousandths behind his compatriot while Norman Nato (Arden) takes 15th place. For his GP2 debut, Briton Jann Mardenborough (Carlin) will start from 19th place.
The main race of the GP2 Series in Italy will take place tomorrow from 15:40 p.m.
