Guanyu Zhou hits double

He had to wait until the end of his second season of Formula 2 to achieve his first victory in the category. This year, Guanyu-Zhou (UNI-Virtuosi) only needed three races to stand out. But this time it was the main race that he dominated for the very first time in his career in his third F2 campaign, following his success in the sprint race in Sochi last year.

The pilot of theAlpine Academy dominated Daniel Ticktum (Carlin) and the winner of the first race of the weekend, New Zealander Liam Lawson (Hitech). Starting from pole on Hard tyres, unlike his direct opponents, Zhou nevertheless surprised by switching to Soft tires mid-race. But the appearance of a VSC and an SC, as well as good management of his tires at the end of the race allowed him to win despite worn tires.

As usual in Formula 2, the race was very fast-paced. Regrets will go to Oscar piastri (Prema), winner of the second sprint race of the weekend, and who had to retire on the penultimate lap while fighting for third place with Dan Ticktum. The Australian and the Briton touched each other in turn 3 and Piastri went to the mat. These are big points lost in the title race for the Aussie.

French side, Theo Pourchaire (ART Grand Prix) finished 8th for his first main race with the French structure. Starting on the front row, his teammate Christian Lundgaard could not do better than 11th after receiving a penalty for excessive speed under Safety Car.

In difficulty last season, DAMS finished 5th thanks to Marcus Armstrong, ahead of the surprising Richard Verschoor (MP Motorsport) 4th, who led the race six laps from the end, before finding himself in trouble with his tires.
