Ilott takes pole in the rain in Hungary

Callum Ilott (Uni-Virtuosi) will start from pole position for the main FIA race F2 on the sidelines of the Hungarian Grand Prix this Saturday. The driver set the best time in a qualifying session contested on a wet track and interrupted five minutes before the end, after Jehan Darauvala (Carlin) went off the road.

The member of the Ferrari Driver Academy, thanks to a time of 1’50”767, beat the Brazilian Luca Ghiotto (Hitech) and his teammate Guanyu-Zhou (UNI-Virtuosi). DAMS driver Daniel Ticktum will accompany the Chinese on the second row.

Championship leader Robert Shwartzman only set the 11th fastest time, almost ten seconds from pole. The session was obviously marked by a few road trips in difficult conditions.

Guilherme Samaia (Campos) was the first to cause a red flag by going out on his first flying lap. French Giuliano Alesi (HWA Racelab) took 10th place and will start in the points on Saturday. Christian Lundgaard, 2nd in the championship, was the best ART Grand Prix driver. He will start in 5th position.
