Indy 500: Dixon on pole, Power survives

Scott Dixon snatched the pole for the 105th edition of the Indianapolis 500 with a four-lap average of 371,758 km/h.

The New Zealander was the last to start having already been the fastest on Saturday, and obtained the 4th pole of his career at the Indy 500, after 2008, 2015, and 2017.

Dixon got the better of Colton Herta (Andretti), who could claim, at 21, to become the youngest pole sitter in the history of the great American classic.

The first row will be completed by another young man, Rinus Veekay (20 years old), winner last week at the Indy GP. The Dutchman from Ed Carpenter Racing beat his boss, Ed Carpenter, who will start from 4th position, alongside two teammates of Dixon, Tony Kanaan and Alex Palou.

The third row will be formed by Ryan Hunter-Reay (Andretti), Helio Castroneves (Meyer Shank), and Marcus Ericsson (Chip Ganassi).

On the other side of the grid, Team Penske can breathe easy. Will Power, the man with 62 poles, snatched his place on the last row by setting the 2nd time of the five drivers involved in the Last Row Shootout. The Australian, however, suffered a scare when one of his wheels hit the wall during his 4th and final lap.

Simona De Silvestro will also be there. The Swiss from Paretta Autosport, a team which benefits from the technical support of Team Penske, snatched the last and 33rd place.

The fastest during this Last Row Shootout, Sage Karam (Dreyer & Reinbold) will start in 31st position, while Sébastien's teammate Bourdais, Charlie Kimball (AJ Foyt Racing) failed to qualify, as did Top Gun Racing rookie RC Enerson.
