IndyCar – Fernando Alonso enjoyed driving on a road car

What can you tell us about this new experience?

It was a good day, very pleasant. I love trying new cars and discovering car of Indy on a road car was a special experience. I was quite lucky to be able to do it on wet, dry and dry tracks, and the sensations were good whatever the conditions. Despite a bit of wind this afternoon, it was an overall positive day.

Superspeedway or road, which do you prefer?

My instinct will probably be to say road racing because that's what I've been used to my whole life, but Indy 500 was an incredible experience, so I'd say 50/50. I like the way the cars handle on the road, but I like the competition on the oval, the slipstream, the traffic and the overtaking maneuvers which I think are easier on the oval. In terms of action on the track, I loved the Indy 500.

Is driving different types of cars a challenge, like writing a list of things to do before you die?

Yes quite. This is something I already wanted to do last year. I had various opportunities to road test the car after the Indy 500. We didn't find the time to do it, but we managed to do it this year and I'm delighted. I like being behind the wheel, more so when it's a new car, and learning a lot from the team, the engineers and everyone, it was a good day.
