IndyCar – Hinchcliffe confirmed at SPM

James Hinchcliffe will continue to defend the interests of Schmidt Peterson Motorsports in 2018. SPM confirmed during its crew confirmation that the Canadian had extended his contract for several seasons. The Rookie of the year of the 2011 season will play alongside his compatriot Robert Wicken announced earlier today.

“I am not only delighted to be able to say that I will be back with SPM next year and beyond but that I will be playing with a teammate who is one of my oldest friends”, rejoices James Hinchcliffe who had exchanged his mount with Robert Wickens at the start of the year.

“We grew up competing together. We subsequently took different paths. I stayed in North America to drive single-seaters while he drove racing cars in Europe. It’s quite exceptional that we manage to end up in the same team while living our dream of being professional drivers”, adds the pole sitter of the 100th edition of Indy 500.

James Hinchcliffe has a total of five victories in IndyCar, the last one dating back to this season in Long Beach (California), and 14 podiums in six seasons contested in the discipline. With Robert Wickens, he will form the first 100% Canadian crew in car in North America since 2004 when Paul Tracy and Patrick Carpentier competed in Champ Car with Forsythe Racing.
