IndyCar – The 2017 calendar made official

While the finale of the 2016 season ofIndyCar promises to be one of the most thrilling simon pagenaud and Will Power for the conquest of the title, the officials of the American championship revealed this Thursday the calendar for the next 2017 season.

17 races are on the program, six on ovals, six on a permanent road layout and five on a temporary urban layout. The season opener will be scheduled for March 12 in St. Petersburg, Florida. The series will then head due west to the legendary Long Beach event in California on April 9. Barber Motorsports Park will host the third round of the championship on April 23, before the first oval meeting in Phoenix, Arizona the following week.

Then comes the highly anticipated month of May in IndyCar with the two meetings in Indianapolis. The Grand Prix contested at the Infield will take place on May 13 before the big 500 miles meeting scheduled for May 28.

The Belle Isle track in Detroit (Michigan) will host the traditional double-header on June 3 and 4, before the rounds of Texas (June 10) and Road America (June 25), the track having returned to IndyCar this year.

Iowa, Toronto in Canada and Mid-Ohio will form the backbone of the summer in July with the events at Pocono (August 20) and Gateway Motorsports Park (August 26), an oval which makes its return to the premier series of single-seater racing in the United States. The 1,25-mile track, featuring turns 1 and 2 inclined at 11° and 3 and 4 at 9°, hosted CART then the Indy Racing League between 1997 and 2003, Juan Pablo Montoya and Helio Castroneves having established themselves during this period.

The season will end with the races at Watkins Glen (New York), which continues its commitment to IndyCar, and the final in Sonoma, California on September 17.
