IndyCar – Power scores his 50th pole at Gateway Motorsports Park

Will Power is on an upward slope currently in IndyCar Series. Winner last week at Pocono (Pennsylvania) for the second year in a row, the Team Penske driver dominated qualifying at Gateway Motorsports Park in Madison (Illinois).

The resident of Roger Penske's structure completed his attempt over two laps in 47″457 at 189,642 mph (or 305,199 km/h) and takes his Penske teammates in his wake for a quadruple victory for "The Captain's" men. Power also achieved his fiftieth career pole.

The Australian is more than three tenths ahead of championship leader Josef Newgarden, who will accompany him on the front row. Helio Castroneves, the latest winner at the Gateway, takes the third time ahead of simon pagenaud.

Ed Carpenter (Ed Carpenter Racing – Chevrolet) moved up to fifth position ahead of the first DW12 – Honda of Takuma Sato (Andretti Autosport). For his return to competition after his serious accident in qualifying at Indianapolis, Sébastien Bourdais (Dale Coyne Racing – Honda) achieves the 19th performance of the session.
