IndyCar – Scott Dixon wins at Sonoma, Simon Pagenaud 3rd

The final road race of the season crystallized the championship clash between Penske drivers Will Power and Helio Castroneves. But neither man took a decisive advantage until Fontana's final round in a week where the points will be doubled. Will Power led the first part of the race, before making a mistake and falling down the standings. Starting again behind Helio Castroneves, the championship leader finally finished 10th after making a solid comeback at the end of the event. For his part, the Brazilian Castroneves had a turbulent race, between a damaged wing on the first lap, and a stop immediately to repair the right rear of his DW12.

And it is ultimately the outgoing champion Scott Dixon who emerges as winner after a finish where saving fuel played a major role. Leader until three laps from the goal, Graham Rahal (Rahal Letterman Lanigan – Honda) was forced to return to the pits for additional fuel. Scott Dixon then managed to overtake Mike conway (Ed Carpenter Racing – Chevrolet), who ran out of fuel moments later on the last lap. Ryan Hunter-Reay (Andretti Autosport – Honda) takes 2nd place ahead of the Frenchman simon pagenaud (Schmidt Peterson Motorsports – Honda), the tricolor retaining its chance for the title during the final round at Fontana. Sebastian Bourdais (KV Racing -Chevrolet) finished 11th, after having had a tricky start to the race.
