Motorsport is in mourning today. Dan Wheldon succumbed to his injuries following a pileup during the opening laps of the season finale in Las Vegas. Several drivers were injured in the accident but attention quickly turned to Dan Wheldon. The British resident of Sam Schmidt Motorsports was evacuated by helicopter to the nearest hospital but did not survive his injuries.
Dan Wheldon won the Indianapolis 500 this year after winning the IRL season in 2005. The Briton left at just 33 years old. To his family and loved ones, the entire AUTOhebdo editorial staff sends its most sincere condolences.
