Didier Calmels: “They tried to break our contract in various ways”

Last September, Didier Calmels and Sam Schmidt announced their partnership with a view to competing in the 500 Indianapolis 2018, with a car hired by SPM for Tristan Gommendy. But the beautiful story finally ended with a separation by mutual agreement.

“The truth is that Schmidt Peterson Motorsports will announce, very soon, that it has signed another contract with Michael Shank Racing for a program bigger than my single participation in the Indy 500 and that it needs to recover the chassis that was mine dedicated for racing, Didier Calmels told us.

Then they tried to break our contract in various ways, either by offering me support from second-rate teams, which I refused outright, or by attacking me on a personal level.

It hurt me a lot and I didn't come out of it unscathed, but I want to emphasize the point that money was never a problem because I already owned all my partners. »

CARhebdo will return in more detail on the end of the collaboration between Calmels Sport and SPM in its n°2144, available from Monday evening in digital version and from next Wednesday on newsstands.
