Franchitti wants to stay involved in IndyCar

Dario Franchitti had to end his career prematurely following his accident in Houston last October where he injured a vertebra. Aged 40, the Scot was forced to follow the advice of doctors while the resident of Chip Ganassi Racing still hoped to achieve many successes. “The most important thing for me was to tell Chip (Ganassi, the team owner).”, explained the three-time winner of the Indianapolis 500. “I think it took me two days to tell him. I spent my time wondering how I could solve this problem. I had already ridden once with a back injury in 2003 and with several cracks in recent years. I looked for a way to negotiate, but there was none. So I called Chip, Mike (Hull, the director of management), Dixon, TK (Tony Kanaan)…”

After ten years in the discipline, Dario Franchitti has no regrets, as the Scot has stood out in the peloton. Paul di Resta's cousin remembered with emotion the crucial moment in his career which allowed him to experience so much success. “It goes back to 1991 when Charlie (Kimball) was six and I was only 12 when I was driving a Vauxhall Junior. It was the last race of the season. I was on track to win the Championship and I did it. Jackie Stewart noticed me and started the machine to carry me here. Without that, there would be no here. This is probably one of my best moments, believe it or not. »

Once the disappointment was over, Dario Franchitti's competitive nature took over. The former champion ofIndyCar hopes to be able to continue its collaboration with Chip Ganassi Racing by finding a suitable place. “ I would love to stay involved in IndyCar, obviously with the Target team, and we are working on it. I hope we get there quickly and I can start working with the team. I already started by talking on the phone with the engineers and TK… I wanted him to be the one to take the wheel of the No. 10 and when it was confirmed, I understood that it was real and it was hard. Everyone's calls helped me a lot. »
