Colton Herta (Andretti Autosport) took his first success of the season, the third of his young career, during the second race of the weekend at Mid-Ohio, and Andretti Autosport scored a resounding hat-trick. The 3-year-old American beat Alexander Red of 1”3, and Ryan Hunter-Reay of 2”4.
Like Saturday with Will Power, it was the poleman who won without trembling. The race was, however, more eventful than the day before, with an incident on the first lap, when Santino Ferrucci (Dale Coyne Racing), who shared the first row with Herta, wanted to force an overtake on Bryan's son, and ended up by hitting his teammates Alex Palou, who hit Felix Rosenqvist (Chip Ganassi).
Brushed by the car of the reckless American, Scott Dixon (Chip Ganassi), who started in 3rd position, was doing well, but the overall leader was going to make a mistake alone on the 22nd lap, going into a spin after getting on a vibrator in turn 1.

Starting at the back of the grid, the New Zealander still limited the damage thanks to refueling at the right time and a very good racing pace.
Tenth thanks to an overtake on Rinus VeeKay (ECR) on the last lap, Dixon ultimately lost only four points on his runner-up in the general standings, Josef Newgarden, eighth in the race.
With three rounds remaining in the season, 72 points separate the two men.
Sixth on the grid, simon pagenaud (Team Penske) finished in the same place, but could at least have claimed a top5 without a final pass through the pitlane where the arrival of Pato O' Ward in his pitbox slowed down his exit.
