By signing up at the very last minute with Fan Force United, Jean Alesi did not have much time to discover the team with which they are discovering the world of the Indianapolis 500 together. The Lotus ambassador first had to pass the three Phases of the Rookie Orientation Program. The first two Phases require the driver to complete ten then 15 all at a speed between 200 and 210mph (between 322 and 338km/h). But the Fan Force United driver still had to pass the final phase which consists of spending 15 more laps at more than 210mph.
The former pilot of F1 finally managed to successfully complete this last Phase to complete the Rookie Orientation Program and line up on Saturday for qualifying for the Indianapolis 500. Fan Force United did not have the task after encountering engine problems in the second free practice session limiting the engine speed of the DW12. He will now have to qualify in the first 33, which should not be difficult since the same number of drivers are on the entry list.
