Indy 500 – Bourdais fastest at Fast Friday

A traditional dress rehearsal before qualifying, this Friday's Fast Friday in Indianapolis was largely disrupted by the elements, with rain falling onto the American oval. Enough to disrupt the progress of the day, with a session interruption of more than two hours.

Before that, the reference times for this Friday had already been established, and it is Sébastien Bourdais (Dale Coyne Racing – Honda) who was the fastest in this contested session with increased turbo pressures.

The four-time Champ Car champion has completed one lap at an average speed of 233,116 mph (375,163 km/h) taking advantage of the suction. The Frenchman then preceded Ryan Hunter-Reay (Andretti Autosport – Honda) by 163 thousandths and Takuma Sato (Andretti Autosport – Honda) by 190 thousandths, a leading trio which will not change after the resumption of running.

One time fifth fastest behind Juan Pablo Montoya (Team Penske – Chevrolet), Fernando Alonso (McLaren-Honda Andretti) gained a place at the end of the session, finishing 4th, 214 thousandths behind Bourdais.

The other progression in the top 10 is to the credit of outgoing winner Alexander Red (Andretti Herta Autosport), entered the first ten positions at 0″321. Only Montoya places a DW12 powered by the Chevrolet block in the top 10 in 5th place.

simon pagenaud (Team Penske) finished 23rd in a session marked by the accident of Spencer Pigot (Juncos Racing – Chevrolet), who made a mistake exiting turn no. 2, and Zach Veach (AJ Foyt – Chevrolet).
