Indy 500 – Ed Carpenter on pole for the second year in a row

Already yesterday, Ed Carpenter dominated the first part of qualifying for the 98th edition of the Indianapolis 500. He led the peloton of the nine fastest drivers who were going to compete this Sunday evening for pole position in the Fast Nine of Pole Day. After the first eight drivers, however, it was James Hinchcliffe who had signed an average of 230,839 mph over his four laps with a significant lead over his pursuers from Team Penske Will Power and Helio Castroneves. But that was without taking into account the last effort of Carpenter, who despite a best absolute lap slower than Hinchcliffe (231,442 mph against 231,618 mph for the Andretti driver), was more consistent. Despite everything, we will highlight the very good performance of Hinchcliffe who, a week ago, suffered a concussion during the Indianapolis Grand Prix, hit by debris from the car by Justin Wilson. His team placed three cars in the top 10, just like Penske.

simon pagenaud (Schmidt Peterson Motorsports – Honda) will start in fifth position ahead of Marco Andretti (Andretti Autosport – Honda), Carlos Munoz (Andretti Autosport – Honda), Josef Newgarden (Sarah Fisher Hartman – Honda) and JR Hildebrand (Ed Carpenter – Chevrolet) . Among the other drivers who were not qualified in the Fast Nine, it was Juan-Pablo Montoya (Team Penske – Chevrolet) who was the fastest and took 10th place. Kurt Busch (Andretti Autosport – Honda) is 12th, Sébastien Bourdais (KV Racing – Chevrolet) 17th, Pippa Mann (Dayle Coyne Racing – Honda), the only woman entered this year is 22nd and Jacques Villeneuve (Schmidt Peterson Motorsports – Honda) 27th.

The race will take place next Sunday.
