Marco Andretti is the only one to cross the 227mph barrier on the Indianapolis ring for this seventh free practice session. Unsurprisingly, Jean Alesi and Sébastien Bourdais are still struggling.

Indy 500 – FP7: Marco Andretti in power

Marco Andretti (Andretti Autosport) upped the pace at Indianapolis by completing the ring at an average speed of 227,540mph ahead of Ryan Briscoe and Helio Castroneves (Team Penske). Ryan Hunter-Reay (Andretti Autosport) and Scott Dixon (Target Chip Ganassi Racing) completed the top five of the session by being the last drivers to have managed to cross the 226mph average mark. Dario Franchitti (Target Chip Ganassi Racing) was content with ninth fastest time while his rival Will Power (Team Penske) finished the session credited with 11th fastest time.

Sébastien Bourdais (Dragon Racing) took advantage of the seventh practice session to complete phase II of the Rookie Orientation Program. But the Frenchman is currently behind since he only finished in 29th position with an average speed of 221,191mph just ahead of his teammate Katherine Legge. Jean Alesi (Fan Force United) finished the session in penultimate place ahead of Simona de Silvestro, the only two drivers still powered by Lotus. simon pagenaud (Sam Schmidt Hamilton) continues his learning by setting the 26th time. It will be a busy day tomorrow as the teams will compete in Pole Day of the Indianapolis 500 where the pole sitter and the first drivers on the grid will be chosen.
