Sébastien Bourdais will return to action with Dale Coyne Racing this weekend by competing in the Bommarito Automotive Group 500 at Gateway Motorsport Park.

IndyCar – Bourdais back in competition

Sébastien Bourdais will compete in the last three rounds of the seasonIndyCar by getting back behind the wheel of his DW12 this weekend to compete in the Bommarito Automotive 500 on the oval of Gateway Motorsport Park located in Madison (Illinois).

The four-time Champ Car champion made a rapid recovery after suffering fractures to his pelvis and right hip. during a violent accident during qualifying for the Indianapolis 500 (video).

“You have no idea how excited I am to get back behind the wheel this weekend and for the rest of the season, rejoices Sébastien Bourdais. These 14 weeks have been long and I have worked hard to get back to this level. After the accident, I only had one goal in mind and that was to come back to Sonoma (California) and I am already there with three races to go before the end of the season. It’s kind of amazing and I can’t wait to check out the new Gateway surface this weekend. »

Esteban Gutiérrez will therefore have to give up his place as the contract provided for after being able to compete in his first races in IndyCar. The former Sauber driver says he wants to continue the adventure in the American single-seater championship.

“These last few months have been very interesting since I was able to compete in IndyCar races on street circuits, road courses and especially ovals., comments Esteban Gutiérrez. I thank Dale Coyne and his team for giving me this opportunity to gain experience in hopes of having a full-time IndyCar program next year. My goal was to learn as much as possible in order to be ready for 2018 where a new car will be introduced. This experience will pay off next year. »

Sébastien Bourdais was in the fight for the title at the end of the first races of the season after winning the opening event in St Petersburg (Florida) on March 12.
