IndyCar – Package developments detailed

Chevrolet and Honda, the two engine manufacturers present in IndyCar, have only a few days left to approve the parts of the aero packages that they will offer this season since the ultimatum has been set for January 18. The single-seaters can therefore be differentiated, even if the design will evolve depending on the types of circuits encountered.

“The differences between the 2014 Dallara chassis and aero kits as well as the differences between those of Chevrolet and Honda will be easily identifiable to the eye of an informed spectator », assured Tino Belli, director of aero development of IndyCar, on the official website of the discipline. “There will be a lot of differences between the cars but they will be reduced visually with speed and liveries. The configurations may vary slightly between a Chevy kit at Penske and Ganassi as the teams will be able to make choices. »

Chevrolet and Honda have been working since October 8 on the optimal package corresponding to a particular type of track. “The engine cover, exhausts and rear fins around the tires will be common between the ovals and the circuits. Manufacturers will be able to create new front and rear wings on superspeedways », specified Tino Belli.
