IndyCar – Bad qualifying for rookies

Max Chilton and Alexander Red take their first steps in IndyCar this weekend with the Grand Prix of St Petersburg (Florida). The former Marussia driver plays with Chip Ganassi Racing while the former Caterham resident works for Andretti Autosport.

If these two teams have a good track record in the discipline, the former drivers of F1 made a discreet debut during qualifying since the Briton only took 17th position while the American will start from 19th place.

“The changes made after the first test session didn’t really work”, recognized Max Chilton. “We came back to square one for qualifying, but I had the same balance issues as in testing. I was hoping to get a better position on the grid, but I'm coming here as a rookie and I don't think I did too bad a job. »

Alexander Rossi also has difficulty hiding his disappointment. “We expected more after the first tests”, admitted the Andretti driver. “I had a brake problem in the last practice which we couldn't solve for qualifying. It's a bit disappointing but it happens sometimes. We must work together among the four teams to study the best solution. We all know that IndyCar runs between Saturday and Sunday. »

The St Petersburg Grand Prix will be broadcast on Canal+ Sport from 18:55 p.m.
