IndyCar – Takuma Sato leaves for AJ Foyt

Takuma Sato becomes a regular at theIndyCar Series since he will be competing in his fourth season in the discipline. After leaving the paddock of the F1 in 2008, the Japanese driver joined the American field by arriving at KV Racing Technology. After two seasons, the Japanese headed to Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing with whom he scored two podiums, resulting in a second place on the Edmonton circuit. The former F1 driver even came close to the feat by fighting for victory at the Indy 500 before losing control of his DW12 on the last lap and ending his race in the wall.

Still looking for his first victory in the discipline, Takuma Sato displays great optimism as he joins his new team. “I am really excited to be part of AJ Foyt Racing for the 2013 season”, comments new recruit AJ Foyt. ?I noticed the team?s potential last year on several occasions. I believe this team has the best engineers on the grid? Even though I don't know AJ Foyt very well yet, what he has achieved in his career is incredible. AJ has had so many victories on different machines, on all types of circuits, in any situation. This experience can only help me win races this year. »

AJ Foyt also closely followed the performances of Takuma Sato, his courage at the last 500 Miles of Indianapolis having particularly won him over. “There were a lot of questions when the season ended but I'm happy to put an end to that,” comments the owner of the eponymous stable. “We chose Takuma Sato because he brings a lot of experience to our team but he has the rage of a rookie. He clearly showed that he wanted to win. I like the fact that he is competitive on both types of circuits, ovals and road circuits, and that he is an attacker. I think he's learned quite a bit in the short time since he arrived here. »
