Having made a mistake this morning, Will Power recovered well in St Petersburg, during the second free practice session of the opening round of theIndyCar Series 2016. And this despite a break of almost thirty minutes due to a damaged track. The Australian from Team Penske (Chevrolet) completed a lap of the Florida track in 1”00”9431, improving the time set this morning by simon pagenaud. Power was ahead of the outgoing champion Scott Dixon (Ganassi / Chevrolet) by 0”0142 and the Frenchman Simon Pagenaud (Penske / Chevrolet) by 0”2365 who confirmed his good intentions. The top five is completed by Graham Rahal (RLL / Honda) and Takuma Sato (Foyt / Honda), who prove that the Japanese manufacturer will have to be reckoned with this weekend.
Among the other favorites, note the ninth time of Helio Castroneves (Penske / Chevrolet) who preceded his teammate Juan Pablo Montoya by a breath. Marco Andretti (Andretti / Honda) is 11th, Ryan Hunter-Reay (Andretti / Honda) 12th and Sébastien Bourdais (KVSH Racing / Chevrolet) 14th.
On the rookie side, Alexander Red (Andretti / Honda), which resulted in a red flag after getting stuck in a loophole, is in thirteenth position, five places ahead of Max Chilton (Ganassi / Chevrolet).
Tomorrow morning, the drivers will have the right to a final free practice session before qualifying.
