Jay Frye: “Chevrolet and Honda want to see a third thief arrive”

Advanced Frontal Protection (a device intended to limit the risk of debris hitting a pilot's head) arrives in May. Where are you next?

AFP is something we could adopt quickly and the teams were phenomenal given the timing. Some already had support this weekend. The next phase gives us confidence and I hope we will be able to show something in the next 30 or 45 days.

Can we expect an announcement regarding a third engine manufacturer soon?

I hope so. It’s a subject that arouses a lot of enthusiasm and we discuss things with them (engine manufacturers. Editor’s note). It all depends on the time available, because it is a major investment. Those we are talking to now want to design their own engine. We are talking about a 5-year plan (2021-2026. Editor's note), the grid is expanding and teams are arriving.

At some point, when you gain weight, it is no longer a luxury but a necessity. We're not there yet, but we're getting closer, which is why we're eager to see who the next engine manufacturer to join us will be.

Postponing the entry into force of the 2,4 liter, planned for 2021, to allow a potential 3rd protagonist to join the game, is this an option?

It's all about timing. We are confident in the plans we have made on this. Today, with Chevrolet and Honda, we talked about a platform going from 2021 to 2026. But it could evolve in one direction or the other. And it will depend in particular on this third manufacturer, when and how he wishes to arrive.

Obviously, Chevrolet and Honda want to see a third thief arrive. Therefore, if another one arrives and this leads to a postponement (of settlement. Editor's note) or any other situation, everything is possible.
