Simona de Silvestro in IndyCar

By committing to IndyCar Series within the HVM Racing team, Simona de Silvestro becomes the third woman on the 2010 field after Danica Patrick and Sarah Fisher, with Ana Beatriz joining them for the opening round in Sao Paulo.

The Swiss, who will begin her sixth season of motorsport in the United States this year, finished third in the Atlantic Series in 2009 thanks in particular to four successes and as many pole positions.

Sixteenth fastest in last week's testing at Barber Motorsports Park, her second appearance behind the wheel of the car after testing at Sebring in January, the 21-year-old is now looking forward to the season getting underway:

“I am really delighted with this opportunity offered to me and with the team around me. I would also like to thank my sponsors, family and friends for their help. I can’t wait for the 2010 IZOD IndyCar Series season to begin.”

Attention gentlemen, more and more, women are asserting themselves in motorsport.
