Vernay continues its momentum

Jean-Karl Vernay, for his first year in the United States, is making an excellent debut, and the first attempt could turn into a masterstroke. This weekend, the French driver won his fourth race in Indy Lights, thanks to his domination on the road circuits.

Starting from pole, Jean-Karl Vernay kept the lead despite attacks in the first corners from James Hinchcliffe. The former pilot of F3 Euro Series was then able to escape, in order to score the maximum points (53) in Toronto. Thanks to this fourth victory in seven races, Vernay now has a 68-point lead over his most serious rival, Hinchcliffe.

« The start of the race was very difficult because the first corner was very slippery, confides the driver of the Sam Schmidt Motorsports team. I touched James (Hinchcliffe). I didn't want it but I had no choice. After that, my left-front suspension was a bit broken. It was very difficult afterwards. I had to change my driving style to save tires. »

But the rest went better for the Frenchman, who, in addition, was able to perform well in the championship. “ When my engineer told me there were ten laps left, I knew it would be fine. I just wanted to attack and build a big gap. I saw James make a mistake on the last lap. I'm sorry for him but I can't say it's not a good thing for me, in view of the championship. »
