Josef Newgarden: “No problem with the Aeroscreen”

If the focus was above all on the real kick-off of the 2020 season of IndyCar Series, last weekend's Texas event was also the opportunity to see the Aeroscreen cockpit protection device on the DW12 single-seaters for the first time in a race.

Developed by Red Bull Advanced Technologies, the Aeroscreen was extensively tested last year by the drivers before its introduction validated by the governing bodies of the IndyCar Series for 2020.

As during the tests in 2019, this system did not pose any major problems for the first test of the race. “Apart from the piloting differences, I haven't noticed the Aeroscreen to be quite honest, admits 2019 champion Josef Newgarden, resident of Team Penske.

It looked like a normal IndyCar race to me: I didn't notice a big difference compared to last year. The handling is different in the car but as far as the driver experience is concerned, there is no difference. Visibility was good: I had no problems with this aspect. »

Red Bull Advanced Technologies is already working on the future with its Aeroscreen, which should become an inseparable element of the series in the years to come. “It was a proud moment to see all the cars racing at Texas Motor Speedway, comments Andy Damerum, head of business development for the Red Bull branch.

We are currently in preliminary discussions with IndyCar regarding a future collaboration on their new car. There are many areas where Red Bull Advanced Technologies can help IndyCar and Dallara with design. »
