Juan Manuel Correa: “My passion remains racing”

Seriously injured in the terrible accident which cost the life of Anthoine Hubert at Spa-Francorchamps last August, Juan Manuel Correa began a long path of rehabilitation to try to treat his serious leg injuries.

After a very important operation lasting more than 17 hours, the Sauber Junior Team by Charouz driver must now be patient to hope to one day return behind the wheel, a wish that he did not hide in an interview with the Argentinian media Mundo Sport.

“I have a strong character, admits Correa. When I woke up from my coma period, I realized that I could stay in bed depressed or fight to get up and come back, and that's what I'm going to do. I am motivated by the dream of returning to F2 and to reach F1 in the future.

My passion remains racing. A friend asked me if this extinguished my F1 dream. I told him that an accident doesn't stop the dream, it makes you think: do you want to take a risk for the dream. And I decided that I wanted to continue because it was my dream. »

The American-Ecuadorian freely admits that the period following his awakening was very complicated psychologically. “It took me a few weeks to accept everything, it’s difficult to understand with the medications in the hospital. It took me a while to accept it, but my attitude is pragmatic: nothing will change what happened.

Of course I feel sadness. Anthoine was a good friend, but now I feel like I have to come back not only for myself but also for him. »

All AUTO editorial staffhebdo once again sends his support to Juan Manuel Correa during his convalescence. Stay strong JM.
