To compensate for the unavailability of Sean Gelael, the DAMS team should call on Estonian Jüri Vips, member of the Red Bull Junior Team, for the next two Formula 2 rounds.

Jüri Vips on pole to replace Sean Gelael at DAMS

Jüri Vips is expected to make its big debut in Formula 2 at Spa-Francorchamps, next weekend (August 30-31). According to our information, the Estonian will replace Sean Gelael at DAMS for at least the next two rounds. As a reminder, the Indonesian is unavailable for a theoretical period of six weeks after fracturing a vertebra in Barcelona during the last lap of the main race, following a collision with Jack Aitken (Campos) which caused him to take off on a banana.

Deprived of the first round of Super Formula due to administrative restrictions on entry into Japanese territory for foreign workers, the Estonian will therefore drive in Belgium alongside Daniel Ticktum, a former member of the house. Red Bull, in the Le Mans stable. There would only be a few details left to be resolved between the pilot's entourage and DAMS, before the news would be made official in the coming hours. Sergio Sette Camara, formerly of DAMS, was also seriously considered.

For the moment, Jüri Vips should only take part in the next two rounds, since the third, scheduled for Mugello on September 13, falls at the same time as the Austrian round of the F3 Regional Europe. As a reminder, Vips entered the championship promoted by the ACI with the priority objective of the quest for Superlicence points behind which it is racing for a place in F1 in 2021. Invited to speak by us, the DAMS team did not wish to make any comments.
