As we told you three months ago now, Jüri Vips and Liam Lawson will form the Hitech Grand Prix team duo in Formula 2 This year. Performing with Nikita mazepin in 2020 for its very first season in the anteroom of the Formula 1, the British team will be able to rely on an extremely solid and 100% Red Bull.
Jüri Vips, first of all, had a year 2020 truncated by administrative concerns linked to Covid-19 which prevented him from going to Japan to complete his Super Formula season with the Mugen team. He therefore fell back on a few rounds of Formula Regional Europe, and especially Formula 2 with DAMS to replace Sean Gelael. He also managed to get a podium at Mugello in a sprint race.
The Estonian will not be considered a rookie after taking part in four meetings. On the other hand, he will have at his side a newbie in the series in the person of Liam Lawson. The Red Bull protégé flew the Hitech colors high in Formula 3 last season finishing 5th in the championship with three victories for his second year in the category. As Red Bull did with Carlin in 2020, the Taureau Rouge team therefore decided to place two of its foals in the same team. The season kicks off in Bahrain on March 28.
