Engaged this weekend on the Red Bull Ring (Austria) Formula 2, Jüri Vips distinguishes itself from its opponents by the use of a suit free of any sponsor, as well as a completely carbon black helmet. The Estonian, author of the second best time in qualifying this Friday July 8, wanted to respond to the tumultuous news in which he has been involved for several weeks.

Jüri Vips had in fact pronounced the term several times "nigger" during a live on Twitch, which caused a heated controversy as well as his ouster from Red Bull Racing, where he played the role of reserve driver in Formula 1.

“I offended a lot of people, and they are absolutely right to say those things. I'm just very humbled and grateful to Hitech Grand Prix for giving me a second chance. My main goal is obviously to continue the season and give them good results, but above all to become a better person and show everyone that I learned from this. »

Although retained by his Hitech Grand Prix team at the lower level, Jüri Vips was publicly disowned by Formula 2 officials. Hitech Grand Prix's decision is surprising and it is not a choice we would have made. a terse press release indicated.

Jüri Vips has not commented on his current place within the Red Bull Junior Team. Christian Horner explained on July 6: “Everyone deserves a second chance, if they can show that they have truly learned from their mistakes. We will support him – even though his contract has been terminated – from a mental health and education perspective. Hopefully he will learn from it. »
