IndyCar advances on DW12 cockpit safety

There is no (yet) question of Halo in IndyCar, but the officials of the American series have been working for several months to improve the protection of the cockpit of the DW12 single-seaters, and therefore of the drivers' heads.

If we had seen an equivalent to the Aeroscreen tested last year, it's this time a deflector installed on the front hood, just before the cockpit which is due to appear at the Indianapolis 500 next May.

The titanium part, called Advanced Frontal Protection (AFP), was developed by Dallara and is just under eight centimeters high. It is positioned in the axis of the chassis.

IndyCar further indicates that a system equivalent to the Halo was considered, but that it could not be fitted to the current DW12s. Drivers will use this system for testing on the Indianapolis oval on April 24.
