The 2019 calendar announced with two new trips

The calendar for the 2019 seasonIndyCar will maintain an organization similar to previous campaigns, with a launch at the beginning of March on the city circuit of Saint Petersburg (Florida) and will end relatively early, in September. The 17 races are distributed with a predominance for road layouts (12) compared to ovals (5 : Indy 500, Texas, Iowa, Pocono, Gateway)

The two major changes firstly concern the arrival of Circuit of the Americas (Cota) as a second trip at the end of March and the change of location for the final. Never before has the Circuit of the Americas hosted IndyCar. “Cota is one of the best motorsport complexes in the world and Austin is a happy city; it’s a natural setting for IndyCar, estimates Mark Miles, President of the discipline.

IndyCar has a considerable fan base in Texas, with a real desire to attend more races. This new meeting will allow us to offer a race on an oval and on a road in the same state. in a single season. » Indeed, the Texas oval is kept on the calendar.

The other modification is the replacement of Sonoma by the famous Laguna Seca, a route which will benefit from the privileged place in the final. It’s a return to the heyday of Cart in the 1990s, before the discipline split into two competitions, ChampCar and IndyCar.

“The return of IndyCar to Laguna Seca is a tremendous honor and a testament to the appeal of Monterey, and thanks to the county’s support, it will bring a significant economic bonus to our region’s businesses, declared Timothy McGrane, general manager of Laguna Seca, earlier this summer.

We look forward to creating more memories in fans' minds like Bobby Rahal's four consecutive victories from 1984 to 1987, Mario Andretti's farewell race in 1994 and Alex Zanardi's last lap overtake on Bryan Herta in the "Corkscrew" in 1996, known as "The Pass". »

Among the other particularities of the calendar, there will always be two races in one weekend in the city of Detroit (Michigan). Finally, the drivers will have to demonstrate endurance during the summer, with twice three consecutive events (the Toronto-Iowa-Mid-Ohio sequence in July then Pocono-Gateway-Portland in August).
