The fatal accident to Anthoine Hubert at the start of the long race Formula 2 in Spa-Francorchamps (Belgium) is in everyone’s memory. But the International Automobile Federation (FIA) is already working on an investigation into this tragedy, as the body confirmed on Sunday September 1.
“The FIA, together with our technical, safety department and other sections of our organization immediately began the investigation (after the accident),” explains Michael Masi, the Grand Prix race director for the FIA.
“Together with the Royal Automobile Club of Belgium (Racb), the FIA will work with the authorities. There are many aspects to take into account. I won't go into detail until I see the big picture.
One thing is certain, there is no deadline for finalizing the report. It is also far too early to consider repercussions on the safety of Formula 2 events.
“I don’t want to speculate. I think that security never stops evolving, as soon as new technologies or new materials appear, explains Michael Masi. We will continue research to improve things in the best possible way. »
In short, little information has been communicated. So be patient.
