Will we make it to the end of the W Series season? Great uncertainty hangs over the women's competition car. According to information from the British media The Telegraph, the championship would be in great financial difficulty and could miss the last two meetings of the season, in Austin and Mexico.

Still according to the British daily, the W Series owes “significant sums” to its creditors. Whisper, host broadcaster and a major W Series creditor, will not be sending anyone to Singapore this weekend, as the championship's promoters desperately try to raise the funds needed to stay afloat. Multiple independent contractors are said to have gone unpaid, with invoices worth thousands of pounds, some of which are months old.

No final in Austin and Mexico… and no cash prize ?

Former lawyer and banker Catherine Bond Muir, who founded the W Series in 2018, said the current global financial crisis and the depreciation of sterling had only made her job more difficult. But she said she was confident the competition would survive. “We're having a lot of conversations right now and I'm very optimistic. We had to fight from day one. It has always been a struggle but we are fighters. » However, Bond Muir could not guarantee that the season would continue to the finale in Austin and Mexico if Jamie Chadwick is titled in Singapore, or even that all drivers would receive their cash prize (end of season financial price).

“We are reviewing our budgets, declared the founder of the W Series. We are confident that we will continue to raise funds. You have to understand that the W Series is a completely new sport. Tennis has become equal between men and women now because Billie-Jean King fought for these rights 50 years ago. Football is slowly starting to become more equal. (…) That takes time. We're only in our third season. But we have already made a huge impact and we are a force for good. » In any case, the W Series cars will be on the grid in Singapore, for the first race in Asia in the (short) history of the category.
